My Evaluation for Evaluation 3 Audience Feedback

SCRIPT:

It was important I was aware of who my target audience was, this meant I could aim my products at them. For this I needed to know their demographics and psychographics, demographics being their age, gender, ethnicity etc, and psychographics being based more on my target audiences interests and beliefs. To find this out I used google drives to create a questionnaire aimed at my target audience to discover more about who they are and what they liked and disliked so I could aim my music video at them. Google drive was helpful as it was easy to distribute the questionnaire to specific people within range of my target audience.

When receiving the feedback from my questionnaire I discovered my target audience was young females which is stereotypical within the pop genre.
56.5%- female so I added in Lewis to appeal to males also
91.3%- 15-19 year olds
60.9% - middle class
50.5%- Caucasian
Also from this questionnaire I discovered my target audience like the videos 'Work From Home' and 'Touch' which are both from groups which is why I decided to use groups within the video and 2 main singers. Both videos include lip sync which again are stereotypical to the pop genre and is something I included in my music video.

With the first edits of my print products I targeted the target audience using bright colours which has connotations of love, happiness and energy, which are key themes within the pop genre, I wanted the typography to be bold to do this also. I wanted the images with the same model which is something most products do use. I wanted the model to be young so it was relevant to the target audience and someone who can inspire them which I also did through costume. I wanted the layout to be stereotypical very simple with a main image with the artist and album name so the target audience could see what the product was and whos it was.

When shooting the video we wanted to use many locations as it is fun and keeps the audience engaged when watching the video. After our first edits we used focus groups to gain feedback on our video. The focus group liked- the locations and the main images and how they were edited. The focus groups believed my product didn't have a clear enough house style with the music video. So to change this I made TV scan lines and added them the same as we had done with the music video. Doing this created that house style.

After releasing the final products my target audience liked my locations the house styles and also the costumes which inspired them. They liked the stereotypical pop conventions such as dance and lip sync which created energy. They thought the scan lines were unique. Overall the responses were positive liking the female empowerment and the clear narrative of the power point. The 2 different models showed 2 different perspectives.

It is always important that I take in to account my audience feedback when creating a media product as they are the people that buy the product so it is important that it appeals to them. It is important that the end product and model appeals to a mass audience to encourage more people to buy and watch the products.

EVALUATION: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

SCRIPT
For our course work our set-topic was A music video promotion . The three texts that i had to create in relation to this were a music video promotion (made in a group), a digipak and a tour poster. In order to create these products i had to learn how to use various hardware and software to assist me in all stages of planning, production and editing. this was important because without this i would not have been able to design and produce effective and semi- professional looking products

Pre-Production & Planning:
During the pre-production stage I used various websites and software to create and present my research and planning materials.

I used different features within google drive during the researching and planning stage. I mainly used the features to create presentations and audience questionnaires. To present my work I used google slides and for my questionnaires I used google forms. I also used the drive space to store all my work such as images, fonts vidoes, word documents with research notes etc. I found google drive very beneficial because it meant that there was somewhere secure that i could store my files and then easily access from another computer at a later date. Also I found that this software was also easy to navigate around even when reviewing my previous work.

I mainly used google slides and google forms.
I used google forms to help me create a questionnaire on understanding what types of content that our target audience wanted to get out/ see in our music video, or a tour poster and digipak. This software abled me to ask what fonts the audience would prefer, layout designs, colour schemes etc. I was able to even add images. I found that this was very beneficial when it came to planning every aspect of our products as we were able to have an insight into what our target audience wanted. I found that it was simple to send out these questionnaires as i could print them off or email them the link to the page to do the service. Even when receiving answers the software put the results into graphs and organized the answers in order for you to analyse them. I believe this was extremely beneficial as it meant that after we got audience feedback we were able to make sense of the information faster.

Additionally I used google slides which is a online version of powerpoint. I used this software to present research and plan aspects for the music video, tour poster or digipak as well as create the layout designs for my tour poster and digipak. This was because this software had many functions including ones that abled me to simply insert images and videos. For example there were pre-designs that allowed me to present my work in a professional way without having to download a lot of styles, fonts and designs. Additionally, it was simple to import images, charts and URLs. Overall, I thought that this software was beneficial and had many advantages: being that it saved automatically; you could import images and vidoes easily; and you could share the slides to other members of the group so they could view and edit and you could see the changes happening. On the other hand, i did feel like you could not present this presentation as creatively as other presentation software like prezi.

The only issue with Google drive is that internet access is required to use the system. Which meant that the people who we wanted to answer our questionnaire would need to have Wi-Fi. This was a disadvantage that could not have been overcome. There were a few issues where i did not have internet access, however i just typed up my work onto microsoft word and then when i gained internet access i uploaded them.

I used a lot of google sites alongside google slides to present my work during the researching and planning stage. One of these being Prezi, I used prezi to present the Recces and the music video analysis.Prezi is a website in which enables anyone to create presentations. This is a software which is more complex than google slides due to its functions and layouts, however it does make your presentation look simpler and more aesthetically pleasing for the viewer. This is due to the fact that they have a wide range of templates you can apply to your work. The difficulties that i had when it came into using this software was that their is not a tutorial or demo video that explains all of the functions so it took me a while to understand what does what. Additionally, due to this software being a website meant that internet was needed for it to work. Therefore, if my internet was slow or i did not have access i was not able to do any work.

Production:
We had to use how to use these cameras in a short amount of time, which meant that we did not have an immense amount of knowledge when we came to filming for our music video. When we were shooting off site from boa we had to carry our equipment to the location of our shoot. This was difficult to do because we were carrying: a tripod; a DSLR a shoulder rig, fig rig, LED lights etc. We distributed the equipment between us when traveling to prevent the risk of injury or someone dropping the equipment.

When I took the photos of the artists for my tour poster and digipak I used a DLSR camera which was the Canon 760D with the 50mm EF Lens. This was helpful as could take high quality images so my digipak and tour poster could look professional. Also as i have used one before it did not take me long to adjust the lighting and get it the right shutter speed and light intake that I wanted so my image came out good.

For my tour poster and digipak I booked out a studio and I used a tripod and had 2 Yongnuo YN36’s and 2 Lishuai Panel lights. The yongnuo lights were the most beneficial lights I had booked out as they could change colours and were very bright. These lights were able to change to blue and pink which are the colours that I had on my artists for my tour poster, and these lights were white when i was taking images for my digipak front and back cover. I realised that there were some difficulties with these lights when finding out turing down what dials to make certain colours. I found this quite difficult and spent a lot of time trying to work them out.

During production the technologies that were used for the music video consisted of the Canon 760D with a 55mm lens. This made our videos look professional, as it was filmed in high definition which meant that the footage that we had taken looked clear when focused. With this camera we could also adjust how much light we let into the camera, which meant that when we were filming in the dark TV studio the models could still be seen to a degree without the LED lights. When filming we did have a difficulty with the sim card. In which the camera kept saying that the storage was full, even when we had deleted some footage. We had to find an SD card at the last minutes which was difficult and very unexpected.

When filming our music video we had 2 Yongnuo YN36’s in which allowed us to light up our models. These LED lights also allowed us change their colour so that we could have pink and blue casted upon or models faces. These lights were very effective as when turned up to 100% they were very pigmented and bright. they were also light and easy to carry, which was beneficial for when we were shooting on location. The only issue i found with these were that it took awhile to find the colour that you wanted as the settings were quite complex and when we booked them out we did not have instructions so we spent a lot of time trying to find the right setting.

Post-Production:
I used both I Macs and Windows computers during the post production stage. I found it easier to use an Mac as i own one myself and therefore are more familiar with the functions. Additionally, I found that when i was using a windows computer, the computer did not have the capacity to cope with the size of the file I had when editing the music video. Often when i tried to adjust the graphics or make major changes to the layers the system would crash. This was because of the RAM not being best suited for the Adobe Premiere Pro.

I used premier pro CC 2017 when editing the music video. This software i found quite self explanty to use as i was told the basic knowledge in class, such as using the razer tool to split the clips; how to add graphic texts etc. Also i watched a lot of youtube tutorials when there was anything else i wanted to do. Apart from this i found that when using the software i noticed different functions like how to change the opacity, how to green screen etc. I added sound at the beginning of my music video in which i downloaded from the internet and placed it under the song. I thought that this would add the to the house style that we were going for as a group. Also visual effects I used were adding a glitch effect in which appeared on the dancers when they were dancing. For this i watched a youtube tutorial and I learnt that i had to download a video of a tv glitch and use the razer tool to cut and place the glitch where i wanted it in the music video. I then changed the opacity to make sure that it look more realistic and so it did not cover the main dancers completely. I personally enjoyed working with this piece of software as i found there was so many functions that could make my music video look more professional. For example I colour graded the shots that were taken in the studio so that the colours blue and pink were more enchanted. Additionally, i adjusted the speed of the different clips. I found that there were a few difficulties that I had were mainly that the computers were not able to cope with the file capacity so that when i was trying to edit the video was lagging. I turned the quality down from full to ¼ and then i went into the performance preferences and changed the focus RAM to 6.5GB on premier pro and 1.5 on other applications so that more of the computer's RAM was focused at Premier Pro. However, this did not make much of a change, it only meant that at ¼ quality it would not lag, however i could not turn up the quality. This meant that only when i exported my project i could see the true quality of the video.

I also used Adobe Encoder to queue our music video instead of exporting directly from premiere pro this is because after watching youtube tutorials i realised that this would be the best way to export the video and keep the quality high. This therefore was a benefit to my music video, i did not have any issues this this software as the youtube tutorials were quite self explanatory for this. The only problem was that it look around 3 hours to export 3:28 minutes of footage and audio in contrast to premier pro that would export in under 30 minutes. This was not a big issue as i could leave it to queue while I edited on print products in photoshop.

I used Adobe Photoshop in order to edit both of my ancillary tasks, which were my tour poster and digipak. When creating my digipak and tour poster I found that photoshop was the easiest software for me to use for this. I did attempt to use indesign but i just felt that i understood photoshop better after doing other projects with the software, therefore i was already familiar with the tools that it had to offer. In this software i mainly used the tools which were the spot healing tool; eraser; opacity; cut and select tool; dodge and burn tool; surface blur, to smoothen the skin of my models; text tool to help me layout the texts; brightness and contrast; as well as a lot of other tools. I released recently how much this software has to offer in order to make your projects look as professional as possible. The only problem that i had when using this software was that I had to keep downloading my fonts as the computers at college would not remember them, and doing this took quite a long time. Time which i could be using effectively by editing

Evaluation:
When writing my evaluations/ planning what to write i used google docs. The only factor that i really like about this in comparison to any other way that i could have planned and worte notes was due to the idea that it was online. To me this was extremely helpful. This was because I travel around a fair amount and being able to access my notes from any computer came in handy especially when i was trying to meet deadlines. Despite, how much i liked this feature it was not helpful when i had my laptop but no internet connection, as i would not be able to access my work. So if i was traveling in the car and wanted to jot down a few notes i couldn't.

When i was presenting my 3rd evaluation which was on audience feedback i used google slides. I found this very easy to place text, online images and destop photos. Even though it comes with pre-designs when presenting my evaluations i chose to design the layout myself. In doing this the software was very allowing. However, i did want to insert other fonts to use in my presentation. Unfortunately this software does not allow other fonts to be uploaded, which in a way took away my creative element in presenting in this format. Despite this there were more positive features than bad.

To present my 1st evaluation which was on codes and conventions i used my mac to record video record. However, when i was editing it i realised that my computer's sound and visuals lag so that it does not look in time. Luckily, i used my iphone 6 to record audio in memos just in case. Therefore when i was editing i could just sync them together. With doing this there were many difficulties as my mac’s video was still behind, which meant that i stuggled to get the audio to match the visuals. After a while I worked out that i could attempt to adapt the speed of the visuals to try and match my audio. Even though i found a way around it, this was very time consuming and caused a lot of hassle- just doing this took me an average of 6 hours, which was ridiculously long. After this, i used premier pro to add in pictures that i had screenshot off my mac or videos that i have screen recorded off my mac. I found by my mac being able to do this was very beneficial as it meant that i could make my evaluation more visually pleasing and easier for someone to understand when I relate my products to professional products. During the editing of this video i did not experience many issues form the programme Premier pro. However, when I came to export my final product i kept getting a notice saying that there was a rendering error. Unfortunately, when i had this error it was on the weekend so i could not even call up Adobe premiere pro support to get help. Therefore, I had to wait till Monday at 8am to contact them about helping me export my evaluation. This caused a lot of issues for me as i did not know if my evaluation would be able to be posted at all or if i would have to spend more time on presenting this again. This made me very unhappy as i spend over 14 hours working on the editing of it.

For this evaluation I am using soundcloud to present my information. I used this last year and i found that it was quite self explanatory in recording and posting. I am currently speaking into my iphone memos and then i am going to upload this into soundcloud. Last year i had no difficulties and i do not believe there will be any this time.

I used wix.com to create a website for my second evaluation on synergy. I found that this online software is an amazing site for when you need to present something such as an evaluation neetly. I felt that it was self explanatory and that i have been able to utilise it to the best of my abilities. I found that adding photos and shapes were quite simple and so was creating your down distinctive layout. This was because there was a toolbar on the left hand side of the screen which had everything that i needed to use. The only negative element that i had regarding this is importing a single video in from your computer. i could not understand at first how to do this, and there was not a demo video. Therefore i had to look at youtube tutorials to help me understand the meaning between videos and channels. However, eventually, i understood and was able to present this effectively.

EVALUATION- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

SCRIPT
In Unit G324, Advanced portfolio. We had a main task which was to create a music video along with two ancillary tasks which were to create a digipak and a tour poster. These media products follow various codes and conventions to create synergy between each of the various promotional materials. There for in the researching and planning stage I looked into some official material and analysed the codes and conventions. I looked into the camera, editing, mise en scene as well as stereotypes. As we chose Demi Lovato’s Sorry Not Sorry, we also chose to look a lot in to the conventions of the pop genre. Due to this being a female artist we looked into a lot of theories as well to see how female pop artists are portrayed by the record label. When I made the digipak and tour poster there was clear link as well as synergy to the music video.

Music Video (Main Task):
The purpose of our music video was to entertain an audience, promote homosexual artists as we felt after researching that the media do not have as many artists which do pop and do drag. Through our music video i believe we have done this successfully, though having an equal amount of camera shots of the homosexual male as the hetrosexual female. There are also a lot of other conventions that we developed and challenged in order to show this.

In the research and planning stage we looked into Sven E Carlsson who is a theorist in which suggests that there are two categories which a music video can be put into which are known as Performance and conceptual. Conceptional is when a music video is narrative based and performance is when the artist is singing in the video. We decided to take both of these categories and mix them together which is why our music video has the artists lip syncing to the camera as well as the artists running around an office and wrecking the place. Therefore when watching over our final product we realised that we adapted his theory and created a hybrid consisting of both narrative  and performance

Following this we looked into Michael Shore’s music video theory. His theory states that all music videos are aimed at a particular audience. He says that music videos often use recycled images and styles that appeals to adolescent males and their fantasies which consist of speed, power, girls and wealth. When we researched into our pop genre we realised that artists music videos like fifth harmony have girls shown which would appeal to males. For example, in the music video Work From Home their are five girls are shown to be wearing clothes that show off their figures and a lot of flesh to the audience. The way that women use their bodies to entice male audiences to watch them in this video. The combination of workers distracted by the women walking past and dancing sexualy. This can often be seen from the female dancers within music videos and within this one, the women are heavily made up which you would not see on an actual construction site, proving that the video is aiming to impress the male audiences watching. However, when we were watching Pop music videos like Swagger Jagger we realise that this dancing was not sexualised. This may be to do with the fact the song was almost aimed at a younger audience. In our music video we decided to have have the female artist use facial expressions in which a male audience member may decode as lustful and seductive. However when it came to dancing we tried to keep quite suitable for a younger audience. This is because when we did our audience research our target audience was 13 year olds to young adults. Therefore we decided to use this theory however adjust how we present it. We presented it in a way which was not as extreme as videos like fifth Harmony Work From Home.

Additionally, Andrew Goodwin was a theorist in whomes theories I researched the most. His theory featured the idea that women are objectified. In our music video we decided to subvert this as we did not want our younger audience members to be influenced by this. It is evident that we have subverted this by having a male in heels instead of the female. The overall, costume of our models so not reveal too much skin and did not allow the audience to look at the models sexually. Even though the audience decode their make-up as quite mature and seductive. Their movement and actions that they do in the video are quite childish which remove the likelyhood of them being sexualy objectified. Therefore we have no sense of voyeurism promoting in the video.

Within the pop genre it is camera angles tend to be medium shots, close ups, and occasional long shots. The verses tend to have longer shots while the choruses will consist of shorter clips due to fast pace editing. The costume, for females are typically ‘sexy’ and sexually exposing and sometimes this is common for males. Nevertheless, what costumes are worn, hair and makeup that are done usually follow fashion trends from the time as the pop genre relies on a mainstream audience.

We conformed to the conventional shots that are used by other music videos within the pop genre. Our camera shots varied between, medium shots, long shots and close ups at eye level, then we used a few occasional levels such as low angles. For example in the second pre-chorus there are long shots from the front of dancers , a medium shot from just behind the dancers and a medium shot from a low camera angle . Therefore we conformed to the camera shots conventions of this genre. Additionally, we chose to keep the camera movements quite limited.

We decided to subvert how with a lot of performance pop music videos there are shorter clips due to a faster pace that are played for the chorus. This is because when we listened to the song, the pre-chorus ‘now payback…” seemed to have a quicker beat than the chorus. Therefore we made sure that for the pre-chorus we cross cutted between the dance clips at a quick pace. However, when it came to the chorus there was a defined click in which we felt would be best to change shots in. We thought this way very important as by having the beat in the music compliment that change in visuals would appeal more to our target audience.

When we were researching into the codes and conventions of pop music video costumes we came across a lot of clothing which showed off the artists figure or revealed a lot of skin inforcing voyeurism. However as this is not what we wanted our music video to convey we looked at other female pop artists and bands such as little mix- Even though they still conform to this convention they do so on a discrete level. Therefore we developed costumes based off this in order make sure that our target audience does not feel influenced to dress explicitly.

Also we decided to have the theme of colours blue and pink on our performers when they are in the studio. This is because we wanted to conform to the stereotype that blue represents men and pink represents females. To show to the audience that even though the male artist is wearing makeup which can be classed as feminine that he still can be a man.

When editing we decided to add a glit ch effect to the clips that were shot outside. The glitch effect was added on the beat to emphasise the glitch itself in which would make the video more visually appealing for the audience. This is not necessarily conventional within a lot of pop genre music videos but there are a few in which have used this for example

Our music video was a pop hybrid between performance and narrative. We chose this style because we wanted the video to tell a story to the audience and make it visually appealing at the same time. In a way we also wanted to audience to feel a connection between them and the characters in the video.

Our music video has taken small elements from multiple pop music videos and have developed them for our music video. However, we have also chosen to subvert from some of these pop music videos as well. For example, we chose not to sexulise the female artist as we did not want to allow the theory that woman need to be presented in a sexulised way especially when our music video was targeted at people under 18 who should not be thinking on sexualsing themeselfs for male pleasure. Therefore we chose to challenge Andrew Goodwins theory of objectifying woman. Our music video is hopefully entertaining and informs the audinece that males can wear make up if they want without meaning they are a girl, as well as understanding that the end of something could be the start of something new and better as suggested by our narrative.

Digipak (Ancillary Task):
With artists name and album name I used the same sans serif font which was called ‘Lemon Milk’. I found that other pop digipaks used this style as well therefore i conformed to it. However, When i researched into this a lot of pop digipaks had there artists name wrote in a different font. After releasing my first draft i realised that it did not look initially right for my digipak and decided to develop this convention. Instead of having a new font I took the same font and doubled the layers, decrease the opacity of the top layer as well as colour. Then i added tv scan lines. I thought that this would be more effective because it would create better branding identity between the digipak, music video and tour poster. I also wanted to use a sans serif font because it would appeal to target audience which is male and females from the ages of 15-19 year olds, with a secondary audience that may include 13-14 year olds.

The typography that I used for my tracklist was the font called ‘Lemon Milk’ which is the same font that I used across all three pieces of material. Again I felt that this font was appealing for our target audience as it was bold and simple. For the track list this typography was in the colour light pink which is stereotypically a feminine colour. This therefore complemented our music videos house style.

The main image on the front cover is an eye level medium close up shot. I chose to use this shot as it allows the audience to see the female face. It was not my intention to show the audience my artists figure in order to create some audience members to sexualy objectify them. Instead i used a shot that was focused on her face. Despite this being partly the intention I did still want my Digipak image to subvert to this theory. Therefore i made sure that this artist was wearing quite mature makeup. The red eye shadow in particular is effective as the colour red has the connotations of lust and this is what i wanted to encode into my digipak. This is why this colour of red was used multiple times across the typography of the digipak. The make-up that is on the artist is up to date makeup trends that are popular at the present moment of time. For example, having their eyebrows drawn and filled in, smokey colourful eyeshadow and light matte lipstick. These are what a mainstream audience may do their makeup like. Having my artists make-up like this meant that the audience would be able to connect with the artist because they will feel as if they have something in common. Additionally, the artists facial expression can be decoded as quiet seductive as well as sassy. I wanted to encode this because main song ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ that the album is featuring is being sassy by what the lyrics are saying. Also when this artist is singing her facial expressions are quite similar to this.

Therefore I used this so that their is a clear link between the artists personality in each. With this image I also adjusted the brightness to complement and enhance the natural lighting. I also increased the contrast so that all the colours were more defined and looked more lively. I believe that this was effective because it made it meant the it seemed more ‘lively’ which links to the album name “The Young Spirit’ which is usually defined as lively.

The colour scheme that my digipak mainly consists of is black, white, gold and dark red.I got the artist to stand against a gold background due to my research into Mikeal Shores theory which suggests that adolescent males are only attracted by factors such as girls and weath I realised that Gold represents wealth and this is something that may catch their eye.

I chose to use black and white as well as the connotations for black are power and ambition and within our music video we wanted to show that the male and female artist has power and i thought that using these colours would be best to show this on our promotional material. The dark red that is used comes from the eye make up of the artist, this colour has the connotations of lust and danger.

I wanted to encode this because it again links to the music video with the ideas of power and sexuality. Also inside of the Digipak i decided to use images that had artificial lighting of blue and pink. These colours were featured majority of the time in the music video.

Therefore i thought that it would be a good idea to put images with these colours in my Digipak that were used in the music video to show the link between the two pieces of a material. As well, i used these colours conform the stereotype that blue is a masculine colour and pink is a feminine colour. I wanted to encode the idea the even though someone may like to dress feminine (artist Lewis) does not mean that they are any less masculine.

For my Digipak i kept the language formal. This is because i did not include a message from the artist inside the digipak. Instead i used lyrics from the single Sorry Not Sorry and as we used the clean version their was not any informal language within that. I believe that the formality makes my digipak appear more official, which is why i would not use colloquial language as i believe that it would make the audience view the artists as a positive role model.

My Digipak has been inspired from other professional digipaks. In the research and planning stage I analysed them and the conventions that they had. The typography of Jessie J’s track list was simple, bold and attractive. I decided to use a similar font in which was bold, simple and attractive which was why I used the font ‘Lemon Milk’ for the my Digipak.

When looking at other digipaks of this genre found that this was a recurring typography style which meant that it was conventional. I also realised when researching that in the Beyonce digipak sexual objection remained in the images with the costume. I did not the audiences to view the artists like this therefore in my images i challenged and subverted this conventions. Therefore i made sure that my artists were clothed well, not exposing areas that will attract the a male gaze.

Magazine Advertisement (Ancillary Task):
To keep the constant house style I used the same font and design for the Artists name on my tour poster. However i developed this a little and changed the colours of the background layer to pink and bluey purple. I personally thought that it would be important to keep this consistent as it is a typical convention which a lot if not all pop music artists have. I thought that if i did not use the same style and font then my products would boy carry synergy and branding identity which is something that is very important to consider and have when creating these products.

Within my Digipak and Tour poster I have created a distinct style which related to the pop genre. The layout and design was inspired by official pop digipaks and tour posters . I decided to keep the artists name at the top of the page as this is conventional of the genre. I decided to do this so that the audience could instantly recognize the genre. However I decided to make the title distinctive by duplicating the layer, changing the opacity of the top layer and changing the colour. I did this because although it wanted to keep the font sans serif as it is conventional and is what our target audience wanted. I wanted it to look this to be distant and unique.

The company logo is on the bottom right corner of my tour poster. I chose to include this in my design of my tour poster after researching into previous official tour posters, having the company logos are a common convention as the company has ownership over the artist. Therefore this can also been seen on the Digipaks as well. The company logo bottom right hand side has a pink overlay so match the house style over the digipak and music video as this is important in creating branding identity. I also created colour overlays on the social media that is at the bottom left hand side of the page again to keep the house style consistent.

The main image on my tour poster has been taken from eye level. I used this shot because from my research and planning I identified that tour poster mainly uses close-up shots and medium shots of the artist. Therefore i conformed to this and used this shot. The idea of having the two artist back to front on my tour poster was something I just imagined when i was in the studio taking shots.

I originally was going to get them to sit on a sofa almost like the Little Mix tour poster but i decided that this would be more beneficial in showing the artists. I decided that to use the colours that are using in the music video which were dark bluey/purple and hot pink. When doing the shoot I used artificial lights which were these colours.

Then when I came into editing enhanced these colours by adjusting the brightness and contrast. This is because I wanted these colours to be bold and stand out as when we did the questionnaire it was said that bright or pastel colours should be used. Also when looking at other pop tour posters like Little Mix’s they used really exposed colours as shown.

The colour scheme throughout my tour poster consists of muted yellow, pastel hot pink, purple, black and white. Above I spoke about the Pink and purple on the image. I decided to sample the colours of the image so that they were the same colour of the main image. I believed that this would be effective as there is a nice harmony between these colours. But for this i decided to use it on the typography as well to carry across the theme. I decided to add the muted yellow to separate these colours as yellow is a colour that is not stereotypically defined as a masculine or feminine. This colour in particular subverts the idea that colours need to be masculine and feminine which is why i used it, as I don't want my audience to believe that males need to be masculine they can be neutral. I also found that this colour was visually appealing. The background remained solely black which made it seem like the artists are merging out of nowhere. This subverted the i conventions of the images that are used by pop artists usually it has high key lighting and a white or lighter background. However, i decided that i wanted to subvert this as i wanted a link to the inside cover of the digipak and the music video. On the other hand, i decided to add the geometric line pattern off the digipak onto the tour poster in order to brighten up the atmosphere of it a little.

In my tour poster I used quite formal language that got to the point. The words ‘NEW SINGLE SORRY NOT SORRY’ were straight to the point but was also formal. I did not want to use colloquial language as i thought it would juxtapose the image that i as the producer have created for these artists. Also as i have chosen them to wear a suit and a dress which is quite formal it would contrast too much for informal language to be placed on the poster. Additionally, I used formal language because their was not many opportunities for informal language. I felt that using formal language made the tour poster appear more official and appealing. Also keeping in mind that this is targeted at a younger audience i did not feel comfortable with subverting the conventions and using informal language.

EVALUATION: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Soundcloud Recording
Within this evaluation, I will be comparing my use of media technologies.

When initially starting the project, I used technologies in a much more basic way. A specific example would be that at first all I used was simple tools on photoshop like colour correction and blemish removers to create brighter photos and giving the models the image of 'perfection'. I improved by learning about more complex edits through watching tutorials, which included making my own backgrounds using the blur tool and adding glitches to my pictures.

I also used online technologies in order to distribute questionnaires on google forms so that I could retrieve data quickly and easily in order to create graphs on what my target audience would most prefer from my products. I also used other google applications such a google docs and google slides in order to create plans for my layout designs.

As well as this, we used different camera technologies in order to create the best sort of shots. For the music video, we used the Canon 760D and used two different lenses in order to get the right focus that we needed for particular shots. For medium shots, we used the 50mm lens as we wanted the artists in the front of the shot to be in focus, and with this lens, it would make the object at the front the clearest. When doing long shots or shots where the camera is being moved, we used the 105mm, which allows you to zoom, in order to change the distance between the artists on the camera during the shot. We used this camera for the photos for our digipak and magazine advert too as it enabled us to take the most focused pictures. The camera itself was a DSLR camera, ensuring that we could take high definition footage, creating a professional look for our products overall.

When editing our video, we used Premier Pro to create and fit our footage together. This software helped us to easily place together the videos and add in the special effects of glitch's and TV static in order to create a professional looking product. To edit my magazine and digipak, I used two programmes, Adobe photoshop and InDesign. I did my main editing of the photos on photoshop as there is a wide range of tools that can be used. I then used InDesign in order to make the final layout of my print products as this software is easy to use and produces professional looking print products when the final product is finished.

EVALUATION: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

EVALUATION: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Script:

It’s incredibly important that you have an in depth understanding of your target demographic as it will enable you to be able to target your product to them more effectively. This will be done through targeting their psycho-graphics (interests, hobbies and beliefs) within your media product. In Order to better understand my target audience and their preferences i carried out a questionnaire prior to making my ancillary tasks as well as a focus group for our music video. Audience feedback is key as it enables you to make minor changes to make it suitable for your audience. A questionnaire is also helpful when assembling your product as you have a general understanding into the audiences preferences in which you can incorporate into your media product.

Audience Demographic
In regards to our audience demographic their age range is between 14-18 which is a typical pop target audience. Knowing their age range greatly assisted me when planning the music video as well as my digipak and music magazine advert as i know both of these products will be target to a young(teen) audience. Finding out which one is the predominant gender within our target audience will assist me when it comes to influencing my choice in costume and colours that will be used throughout both products. Through conducting the questionnaire i found that my audience demographic will be predominantly female (62.7%), which again is stereotypical of our chosen genre.

However we did get a few male responses too (37.9%) which is something needed to take into consideration when planning our products. However as there is a male lead within the video the will appeal to them meaning we will not need to conform to the male gaze theory. The male gaze being that the female is over sexualised to appeal to the males. Our target audience are predominantly students/unemployed and therefore fall among the lower class region. Typically in regards to classes’ higher classes want to be educated whereas the lower classes would want to be entertained offering them a sense of escapism. I feel a though my products appealed to my target demographic as it was incredibly entertaining consisting of bright colours and happy themes throughout. The majority of our target audience was Caucasian which again is typical of our chosen genre as stereo-typically other ethnicity like black would prefer to listen to hip hop/ RnB.

My chosen genre pop generally does attract this demographic as typically this genre of music predominantly attract females ageing between 13-20. This is demonstrated through other pop music artist such as little mix. They showcased similar themes throughout their digipaks and music videos: Bold, on trend costume/makeup and very colourful. These are all factors that appeal to that age demographic, which are also . Little mix are also an example of a girl group that advocate for female empowerment and being fearless in who you are. This is the fundamental message of our song, hence the mass appeal to female audiences. This also explains why the majority of our target demographic when answering our questionnaire were female.

Questionnaire

My questionnaire was incredibly effective tooling me with all the necessary information to execute my media products. For example one of the questions I asked was what the audiences colour preferences the majority answered pastel colours. When i was assembling my digipak I made pastel colours a prominent theme throughout. They also stated that images are the main thing that attract them to a digipak so when I was ensuring my digipak i ensured that I used a variety of images throughout both in the inside as well as the front an back of the digipak. Through having the results of the questionnaire I was able to gain knowledge in regards to what directly appeal to my target demographic whether it was the colour scheme or type of camera shots. Through having this information it influenced my decision in regards to planning both the music video as well as the digipak. I always made sure I took into consideration the audience's responses when making decisions.
Google drive was very useful when creating my questionnaires not only was it simple to create but it was even easier to distribute. One feature I really liked about using google drive was how easy it is was in order to share it. I simply shared a link which gave people access to it. It was also easy to analyse as google drive automatically processed the result putting them in with with either bar charts or pie charts. I feel as though google drive is the most effective way to create, distribute and analyse results.
First Edits
In my first initial edits I tried to appeal to my target demographic through using pastel colours throughout my digipak as this was most voted within the questionnaire. I used a variety of colours such as purple, blue as well as yellow. I specifically used bright and vibrant colours as despite my target demographic being predominantly female there were also a notable amount of males. This meant that my colour scheme had to appeal to both he female and male demographic. I ensured that the majority of my font was serif as when asked my target demographic stated that this most appealed them. So through incorporating serif font i was able to conform to my target demographics preferences. My Digipak was filled with various images of both of models throughout, this assisted me in attempting to attract my target demographic as based on the questionnaire results a large majority stated that images is what attract them to a digipak.

In regards to the layout I ensured that the main images took centre stage i had a more minimalist approach. I did this as 93.7% of participants that took the questionnaire said they prefer images over text. Through taking a minimalist approach and having the image essentially be front runner of the digipak it ensured i met the preferences of my target audience. In terms if Mes en scene i made sure that both the magazine advert, digipak and music video consistent of a theme of vibrant colours, whether this was done through the costume of lighting. I ensured that there costume were on trend and youthful. I projected the theme of bright colours through the frequent use of the LED lights which is prominent throughout the music video as well as the magazine advert. All these factors would have assisted me in attracting my target demographic as they are all conventions typical within the genre of pop.

Focus Group
My focus group identified that the strongest part of our music video and digipaks were that there was a consistent theme throughout both. They could clearly identify the underlying theme of what was occurring. They noticed how the digipak and magazine advert showcased themes that were present within the music video. However one of the weakness they stated was that the video appeared to be geared more towards females. In order to solve this we incorporated more shots and footage into our music video of our male lead. So that both of the models would get equal shine throughout the video

Conclusion

It's vital that you take into account audience feedback when assembling your product as they will be the consumers of your product. If you wish your product to be deemed successful then it must appeal to your target demographic. You will be able to tailor your products to them through taking into account your feedback from them. It's important to note that ultimately you are not making your products for yourself but rather the audience.

EVALUATION: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Script:

In order for a music video promotion to be deemed effective and efficient it's vital that advertisement and promotion for the artist is placed on various platform. In this case for my chosen artist I created a digipak magazine advert as the ancillary products that would assist promoting the music video Which in itself creates synergy through promoting the product of various different platforms. However in order to this to be stylistically consistent across the products hence why it's essential that it has a definitive house style.

 Music video
In regards to my music video it was a pop hybrid of performance as well as narrative. This was purposely done as it's a typically convention found in the majority of pop music videos, often whilst the artist is present (lip syncing/dancing) in which we generally used various medium close up shots as well as close up shots. the video itself will follow a story which usually coincide with the lyrics. We wanted the audience to gain a visual representation of the lyrics which in essence assisted us in promoting the underlying message of the song to be “not sorry” for who you are. We wanted to particularly represent this message through the mise en scene with our male lead wearing making up which audience may consider it to be breaking gender norms. As our target audience consistent of predominantly females within the age range of 14-18, through showcasing themes of not caring and being fearless our preferred reading would be that they too should be confident in who they are.

Digipak & Magazine Advert
In regard to my artillery tasks i feel as though i have successfully used conventions associated with my chosen genre pop to create a distinct style that's evident within my digipak and magazine advert. They typography across both the artillery tasks were primary a serif font which was most popular on our audience feedback. However i did incorporate a slight touch of sans serif font which was for the artist name, it acted almost as a signature making the piece look slighting more intimate and have the artist's touch. The colour scheme throughout my digipak was incredibly colourful which is a typical characteristic often associated with pop. I did divert this when creating my magazine advert in which the poster consisted of both models with pink and blue lights pronounced onto them. I feel as though the consistent use of colours as well as typography font as well style ensured that both of these has a distinct style. But also tied both of these artillery tasks with the music video itself reflecting key themes that was showcased within it.

Synergy
It's vital that a clear house style is developed through all the products in order to create distinct synergy between them. I did this through reflecting the key themes within the video into my digipak and magazine advert. For example my digipak acted as a reflection of the prominent use of colour within the video, Whereas the magazine advert showcased the scene filmed within the studio. The use of constant bright primary colour through all three of the product tied them nicely together. I feel as though synergy works effectively well between all three of the products. However if i was able to improve the synergy between the products I would have perhaps incorporate TV lines into my digipak and magazine advert in order to have a stronger house style link across. Conclusion I ensured that all 3 of my producted acted as advertisement through making sure that the themes (colour schemes, typography ect) remained consistent throughout. This enabled me to create a distinct style therefore creating synergy between my product. I felt as though my main product as well as my atilary products were effective as they followed not only the audience feedback but also conventions associated with the pop genre.

EVALUATION- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
